Book Report by Josiah Conley
Bruce Olson
Bruchko
Bruce is a nineteen year-old American. He goes as a Missionary to a South American tribe, called the Motilones . Does he know what he is getting into? Will he survive? With God's help and power he can do anything! Bruce's story is in the book called Bruchko ! By Bruce Olson, the missionary from the book!
When Bruce Olson translated Greek using the Bible he found the good news of eternal life. He read more and more from the Bible and then accepted God into his life. His family were not Christians . He tried to preach to them, but they would not listen. One day a friend came over and told him that he became a Christian . He invited Bruce to his church . Some days after that he saw a missionary preach. He knew that it was his calling to be a missionary. So, he went to Venezuela, South America . When Bruce arrives in Caracas, Venezuela. He spends months with a Spanish family learning Spanish and the culture. Later, he spends time living with a college student before leaving into the jungle. In the jungle, he finds a tribe called the Yoko. He spent two years with them. Next, he went to the Motilones. The Motilones were noted for killing and violence and were a remote jungle tribe. They shot an arrow into Bruce's leg . After that, they brought him to their village . Sometime later, Bruce sneaked away from them, because he sensed danger. He went back to civilization, but he still did not forget the Motilones. . After awhile, Bruce went back to the Motilones because God was leading him to finish out his mission. He tried to figure out their language. In a few months he learned the language. He learned it without any translator. The Motilones named him Bruchko. A little while later, he made friends with a Motilone, named Bobby . Bruce gives the native witch doctors, not demonic in nature, proper medicines. At a festival, called the “Festival of Arrows”, Bobby sings the news of Jesus, which Bruce taught him. The Motilones understood Jesus as being apart of their culture as God made himself known to them. Most of the Motilones believed and accepted God. Next, Bruce with Bobby's help translated the Bible. Bruce witnesses God working miracles and healing people without medicine. The government noticed the miracle of change in the Motilones . They built hospitals and made friends and were caring. They also learned how to read and built schools . Bruce falls in love with a girl named Gloria. Gloria dies in a car accident and Bruce leaves to visit her mother. But, on the way he almost dies in a whirlpool .Yet, he got there and back safe . Bobby dies in the end by the gun of robbers and goes beyond the horizon. But, the faith of the Motilones survive.
I loved this book. It was great! It might not be my favorite book but it is good! It helps you understand how hard it is to be a missionary and to believe in God. It helps your faith grow. It also helps you understand cultures, since the Motilones are a stone age tribe in South America. I just have one thing to say. I couldn't write this book report without God's help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
